Lectures

The two speeches I have given so far for my Comm class have helped me out a lot. As a future teacher leader I will have to give presentations to boards and committees. But what I don't understand is how some college professors are even on said boards. In my history class my teacher can not keep the classes attention. Some start out paying attention then slowly through class people start to dose off, get on their phones, ect. So how is it possible when applying for things did this teacher keep those people's attention? How was he able to go in front of his peers and keep them focused? Isn't that part of his job? He uses no powerpoints, he doesn't make it relate able, and I have no idea why this should be important to me. The least he could do is put up on slide with what we are going to go over up so I can follow along in my book. He is monotone and un-animated. How he got through so many presentations in front of school boards is beyond me. He should probably just take communications.

Out Dated Words

Slang comes and go. The other day I was sitting in Poppewell and I heard a girl say the word nipplely! who says that!?!?!? I also have been hearing a lot of rads and bogusws. Slang is just like a FAD.... well it is a fad. People say the word retarded like its no big deal, its just part of their vocabulary. They don't know the real meaning behind it and how it can be really hurtful. Along with retarded I hear girls refer to their friends as bitches. I am sorry but if i heard a friend refer to me as a bitch I would be outraged!!! Come on ladies! have some composure!

NVC

A yawn is the most annoying thing EVER!!!! I yawn all the time and I do my best to hide it, but the thing that gets me is when people do it in the middle of class and decide to add sound effects.

When a teacher is leacturing and a student yawns it could mean that the student is bored, or they partied to much the night before. Or they actually did stay up all night studying. But its very annoying when someone lets the world know when they open their big mouth to yawn. COVER YOUR MOUTHS PEOPLE!!!!!!!

Text Message Fights

Well I was suppose to post a couple of sentences that were tanslated into High Code... but I don't have that notebook with me so that will have to be on the next post.

This post is about text messages and fights. Texts have no way of conveying emotion so when you are texting a person the message should be monotone. But when you add in the relationship to the person or what the topic is something might get lost in translation. One of my best friends and her... well... guy friend (very compicated situation) have been having troubles and she texted me for advice. I got multiple messages about said problem but I had trouble figuring out if she was upset or content or possibly even happy.  I had to ask what seemed like a billion questions before I could give her descent advice because her emotions weren't read able. She ended up being very upset and I was no helo because she was frustrated that I didn't understand right off the bat. This was a conversation that I should had in person with her.

That train of thought lead me to a think about sarcasm over text. I heard about a bully in my graduating high school class who would text this girl. And this girl had a huge crush on him, I mean she thought he was her first true love kind of crush. Well one day he was texting her and she decided to ask him on a date. He said yes and complimented her and made a few other remarks. On the night of the said date she went to the meeting place and waited. And waited. And waited a little more and he never showed. When she asked him why he responded with an evil answer about how he said all that stuff sarcasticly and didn't mean it. It crushed her. But how was she suppose to know that he wasn't for real when he said yes?? It was horrible. She should have asked in person and read his tone. Besides asking someone on a date should always be in person.

People rely on text messaging way to much to get their point across... What happen to normal everyday human reaction?

First Posting

I'm not going to lie, when I first found out I was going to make a blog I thought of Barney Stinson. He is the character Neil Patrick Harris plays in How I Met Your Mother. I love that show! So I decided to use a catch phrase of his as the title! Pretty simple.

Tuesday I was sitting in my Childrens Lit class and we were talking about the different variations of Little Red Riding Hood. I have always seen it was a warning to little girls about predators, but not everyone in the class did. That lead to the topic on interpretation and miss communication. As the class went on the subject kept coming up, especially when Beauty and the Beast was brought up. A girl kept going on and on about how she loved the story and how it was romantic and teaches children not to worry all about books and so on. I was confused though, was she talking about the original or the Disney one? Turns out it was Disney and she didn't know that there was one before this animated one. That isn't surprising because a lot of people haven't read the original. But the original is defiantly not a love story, its completely different! And that made me realize that some people interpret things different due to life experiences. I always forget some people may not know or get the chance to read stories such as the original Beauty and the Beast or The Story of Grandmother. Incidents like that happen all the time. It amazes me!
